Personality & Traits
General Overview | As most Vulcans, Sarok seems to be a logical, reserved and stoic person. However, he accepts that he has emotions, which he tries to keep under control as they can be very intense and wild. Therefore, he follows the teachings of Surak, but he refuses to neglect his emotions as his father did on his way of Kolinahr. So even if he may seem calm and serene on the outside, there might just lie a bubbling cauldron underneath. Sarok is a fair and helpful person and tries not to judge anyone based on emotions. He tends to give everyone a second chance and accepts failure as logical part of life. Sarok is an idealist sticking close to rules and regulations as he thinks they guarantee the well-being of the crew and in a wider sense the Federation. He is honest, reliable and trustworthy. In his work he is very thorough and exact. He is open to suggestions and other opinions in the decision making process, but he tends to be stubborn and when he has come to a decision, it is very hard to change his mind again. Sarok is straightforward and says what he thinks which has not always made him friends. Even when being off-duty, Sarok often wears his normal duty uniform. If he decides not to, he normally wears rather simple and casual clothes in mostly dark blueish or greenish colours. For special off-duty occasions, which require more formal clothes, he prefers traditional Vulcan suits. Sarok is not a friend of pretentious and decorated rooms or houses. He likes to keep it plain and simple, which can be clearly seen when you enter his quarters. The room is only sparsely decorated. Sarok is not a fan of big gatherings, parties or social events. If he really has to attend, he normally leaves as soon as protocol allows it. |

Personal History | Sarok was born as the first child to and Taurik and T'Leia on Vulcan. He was given the name Sarok. He has a younger sister, T'Sey - meaning "lady who asserts", who was was born three years later. Sarok was raised in the Shi'Al province on Vulcan where his family owns a house. His father had a determining influence on his upbringing. Due to the fact that his father was rigorously following the way of Kolinahr, Sarok's education was hallmarked by strictness of logic and severe discipline. When his sister T'Sey eventually actively protested against her father by leaving the house and Vulcan. She went to Earth and had a romantic relationship with a human. The family broke every tie with her - apart from Sarok, who remained in contact with his sister. Especially after his sister had left their family home, Sarok’s days on Vulcan were characterized by meditation, strict rules and denial of all emotions. But in spite of (or even because of) his father’s strict and hard-line lectures, and due to his sister's example, Sarok also tends to have a more relaxed view on emotions than his father. After studying the Kirshara, Surak's writings and teachings, he finally came to the conclusion that he had to accept the existence of his emotions. It is neither logical for him to deny the fact that those strong emotions exist nor to attempt to strictly follow the way of Kolinahr as his father. On the other hand, however, he agrees and the supports the teachings of Surak and believes that Vulcans have to control their emotions as they turned out to be disastrous in Vulcan history. Sarok tries to find a balance between the fact that he has emotions and the way of logic and Surak, so that emotions don’t rule him and his behaviour. Sarok has always been a scientist at heart. He worked as a scientists in the Vulcan Scientific Institute in the fields of astronomy, planetology and astrophysics. As a final act of emancipation from his father, Sarok also left his family home and went to Earth, where he joined Starfleet Academy at the age of 68 and came into contact with many other species for whom emotions play a vital role in their life. Naturally, he had some problems finding new non-Vulcan friends there as he found their way of living out their emotions disturbing at first. Therefore he concentrated on his studies and the lectures which helped him with his academic performance. |
