Station Commander's Log, supplemental
Rear Admiral Thornton recording
The CID investigation into the murder of my Chief of Staff has now concluded. Captain Harding has been released, and all charges against her have been dropped.
Lieutenant Commander Hutchinson has been charged with murder, tampering with station records, impersonating a senior officer, and a host of minor offenses.
There was speculation about a charge of sedition, on the grounds of providing aid to a hostile enemy, but I don't think it will stick. The JAG Officer prosecuting the case feels confident of a Dishonourable Discharge, and a life imprisonment for the crimes currently charged. The loss of Cal does make me wonder if the punishment will reflect the crime. That feels a little beyond my purview in any case.
Memorial arrangements for Captain Holbrook went smoothly. I was gratified that the Endurance senior staff were present, even if Captain Harding chose not to attend. I understand the decision, even if it was regrettable.
The Endurance is making final preparations for departure, with fresh operating instructions. We’ll see how much trouble they manage to find this time. A few crew changes have been undertaken, including that of a brand new Executive Officer.I hope Commander Maxwell takes to his new position well.
This has been a terrible affair, and I am glad to have it behind me. Even though Captain Calliope Holbrook will be missed, she will never be forgotten.
End station log,
