It Has to be Done

Posted on Wed Apr 13th, 2022 @ 8:53am by Lieutenant Scott Mitchell "Ghost"

Mission: Mission 2: Chasing Shadows
Location: Squadron Briefing Room
Timeline: Current

Scott was the last to enter the briefing room, PADD and coffee in hand. The room was loud and filled with the sounds of pilots telling stories and half truths about previous engagements or conquests here and there. He stood at the podium for a moment, no one had seen him enter, and just smiled. These were HIS pilots, HIS people and he could not be prouder than to lead them. "Alright people settle down," he called out as he dimmed the lights. "I want to start things off by saying how well you handled yourselves in rescuing the freighter. You guys did really well for your first sortie, except for you Tevek," he pointed a finger at the young Vulcan, "You were WAY too calm out there when that enemy fighter slotted in behind you," he remarked with a grin causing the whole room to erupt in laughter. Scott let the laughter continue for a moment before reining his pilots in, "Alright now back to work."

Scott punched a few commands into the control console on his podium and brought up a holographic display, "This ladies and gentlemen is our objective. There has been a drastic rise in pirate operations in this sector and Intel has determined that his is their base of operations. We don't have much in the way of intel when it comes to what his base is equipped with as far as weapons, shields, and fighters so unfortunately it's going to fall to us to have to finish doing Intel's job for them." A second chuckle filled the room in response.

"Anyone have any questions?" Scott asked the room. Three hands went up, the hands of his flight leads. "Lieutenant Perkins?" Scott called out to the leader of his interceptor flight, "Sir who is going to lead the recon flight?" It was a solid question, anyone of the three were more than capable of leading the operation. "That would be me Lieutenant. I'll be leading the flight personally." The two nodded to each other and Scott called on the next hand, "Lieutenant Diaz," he called out to the slender woman that lead his flight of Vipers, "Sir which flights are you going to be taking on this recon op?" Once again a solid question. "I'll be taking Gamma with me for the actual scans with Alpha holding back as a QRF should things get dicey." She nodded approving of the decisions. "Lieutenant Saval," Scott called on the final hand and the leader of his Scorpion fighters. "Sir what will Beta flight be doing during this op?" Scott nodded, "Beta will hold back and cover the Endurance. I don't want to leave her without any fighter cover in case she runs into anything while Alpha and Gamma are out."

Scott proceeded to go over the details of the operation for the next hour. Every one of his pilots knew what their objective was and he would let his flight leads go over individual assignments once the briefing was over. "Alright that about covers everything. Now I know we all hate recon flights. Especially in this day and age why put a manned craft into harms way when you can just launch a probe and get the same data. Well simply put it's our job and it has to be done."
