Mission: Shoreleave
Location: USS Endurance | Pod Flight Deck

ON

The Starbase Ordinance Specialist, a Petty Officer First Class, walked through the ship's Flight Pod, looking for the man he was after. Lieutenant Mitchell - the Endurance CAG - was the one to whom he needed to report.

No one seemed to give the man a second look - he wore the same navy blue undershirt as they. He didn't stand out. Entering a general meeting room, the Petty Officer looked around, and saw a pair of golden pips, and a set of command wings. That had to be the man.

"Excuse me, Lieutenant Mitchell?"

Scott turned at the sound of his name looking for the individual who called it out. After a quick scan of the deck his eyes came to rest on the young petty officer before him, "That's me. What can I do for you?"

"Sir, I'm from the Starbase. Ordinance Specialist First Class. I have orders that your birds - the whole Squadron - need to be equipped with high-performance sensor pods." The Petty Officer held out the PADD. The Pods themselves - barely half the size of a photon torpedo - would be mounted onto hard-points on the underside of the craft.

Scott looked over the PADD noting the orders, "Definitely could have used these on our last mission. Would have shaved some time off our SAR scans." He scanned the deck once again before nodding, "Alright then, start with Alpha flight then do Gamma. Beta can be last, I don't plan on sending the Scorpions out unless I have to."

"Aye, Aye Lieutenant. Could you point me to the Flight Leaders?"

"PERKINS! SHAW!" Scott called out to the two flight leaders. A few moments later two Lieutenant JGs came jogging up to the pair. "We're getting some upgrades to the fighters. Coordinate with with Chief Michaels to get it done."

The Petty Officer watched the arrival of the two officers and explained his purpose, much as he had done with the CAG.

"More SAR action?" Shaw enquired with a raised eyebrow.

"I just do what they tell me, Sir." The ordinance specialist replied with a shrug. "Shall we call your Plane Captains and start with your personal birds?"

Shaw indicated the way to the birds.

Chief Samantha Michaels appeared as if on cue. She made eye contact with Lieutenant Mitchell, the two had an unspoken agreement that the flight deck was in fact her little slice of the universe and nothing took place in that universe without her knowing. She flashed the Lieutenant a quick smile, "Lieutenant Shaw, I sure hope you're not going to make any modifications to the fighters without running it by the Deck Chief first?"

The Ordinance Specialist offered an apologetic smile. "My fault, Chief." He handed over the PADD with the details. "Orders from the Captain."

It was a few hours to get the sensor pods brought aboard, ferried on by Wrokbees through the pod's main entrance, and laid out on the non-skid deck plating. One by one, each of the highly sensitive, and highly specialized sensor platforms was raised up to the underside hard-points of the craft, and carefully attached. Power connectors, data relay ports, each one had to be secured, and tested, each craft powered up to make sure telemetry was clear.

As the last connector of the last pod was secured, the Ordinance Specialist looked out from under the craft at Lieutenant Shaw. "You wanna run that test again, Sir?" This one had been finnicky, but he was fairly certain he had got it working - until it could be overhauled. He made a mental note to go over the rest of the series on the Starbase when he got back.

Shaw jumped into the cockpit and began to power up systems finally ending with powering up the sensor pods. From the readings he could see everything was working as it should be, but that was not always true. "Things look good up here. How do they look down there?"

"All systems are reading fine." The Ordinance Specialist answered, and stepped back. "All good, Lieutenant." The man caught sight of Mitchell. "Sir, All the birds have been fitted, and system checked."

Scott was putting the final touches on a PADD in hand when he looked up scanning his squadron, "Looks good, I can't wait to get them out into space and run them through their paces." The upgrades would really help out if the rumors going around were true about the ship's next mission. "Oh Specialist," Scott called out as before the man could get too far away, "When you get back station side could you give this to your station's CAG? I'd do it myself but as you can see I'm a little busy."

"Aye, aye Sir." He took the PADD, gave all those assembled a nod, and headed for the exit.
